About Us

Committed to Changing the Debt Landscape

I was inspired to start the Student Loan Project 2028 in May 2018 after learning of a friend's insurmountable student loan debt. In the midst of graduation season, many young people are willingly walking into student loan debt to pursue their dreams with little or no guidance and no way to really understand into what they're getting. Debt is nobody's dream.

Our goal is two-fold

  • To raise awareness of the student loan debt crisis with a goal to reach 60,000 students and their families by May 2028.

  • To raise $300,000 for the student loan debt accrued by just one misguided student borrower.

Take The $5 Pledge today, and help the next generation graduate debt-less or debt-free!

Tips to Graduate Debt-Free or Debt-Less

Take the $5 Pledge to Graduate Debt-Less or Debt-Free and pass it on

i. Take as many courses at your local community college that will transfer, even if you attend a four year college/university. You can start in high school or the summers before and during college.

ii. Plan to graduate in 3 years instead of four by taking a full load instead of the traditional 12 credit hours.

iii. As a general rule of thumb, plan to borrow no more than 20% of your anticipated annual income in your early career.  Using the popular 50/30/20 rule, you can knock the debt out in your first year of work and begin saving.

Tips for Students

Take the $5 Pledge to Graduate Debt-Less or Debt-Free and pass it on

  • Talk openly with your friends, your community, your family about debt and personal finance.

  • Be open to learn from those who came before you. You don't know everything yet.

  • Know that your generation can stop the student loan debt cycle.

  • Make a plan to tackle the debt even before you graduate.

  • Set borrowing limits based on your anticipated income upon graduating. Use a percentage of your income as a guide.

  • Realize in the end where you go to school matters less and less. Make sure it's accredited.

  • Acknowledge that if you can't afford it, your dream school will turn into a nightmare of debt.

  • Recognize your financial limitations and move on to the next best thing.
